What's a nesting ball for birds? This grapevine ball is filled with alpaca fiber and colored with various colored ribbon. Birds come to the nesting ball to pull fiber to take back to their nests to build. It's a great gift for anyone who loves the outdoors. It does NOT have to stay under cover or dry. Alpaca fiber is water repellent and once wet will dry out quickly. Enough fiber in here for at least 2 years. Each ball has a tag telling you which alpaca donated fiber so you could enjoy bird-watching.
Traceability: origin of grapevine unknown. Alpaca fiber from Good Karma Ranch in USA.
I love these nesting balls. A few years ago we cleared out the wooded area behind our home and I came across these nesting balls. I purchased one as we were trying to create a natural area for bird/animal watching and thought this would encourage some native species to nest near our house. The best thing about it is that it can stay out in all sorts of elements without getting soggy and moldy.
I bought two as a gift for a friend who is a real bird lover, and is also hard to buy for. He loved them! He especially liked the card identifying the specific alpaca who "donated" the fur!
